Windsor Royal Shopping Spring Fashion Show 14th May 2009

Latest News from Windsor Royal Shopping.

Legoland prove to be the batter side!

With frying pans at the ready, Legoland’s Captain Brickbeards's Beauties showed they had the key ingredients needed to win the prestigious Flippin’ Windsor & Eton Pancake Challenge 2010.

Team members from the one of the UK’s top attractions – Alison Bledge, Becky Head, Hannah Lambert and Kate Alija – beat 8 teams on the way to the finals teams from the Christopher Wren Hotel and Nandos restaurant on merely the toss of a pancake, to whisk away the 2010 title.

Large crowds gathered in the Windsor Royal Shopping Centre on Tuesday 16th February to witness the spectacle of grown men (and women) in rollers, headscarves, lipstick and frocks battle it out in the hotly contested heats.

Children from St George’s school were there to give welcome support to their team, The Sexy Saints, whilst shoppers and unsuspecting tourists on their way to the Castle soon found themselves drawn into the excitement of the almost gladiatorial knock-out.

Keeping order for the day was MC Paul Roach, (aka the Windsor & Eton Town Manager). Chairman for the Windsor and Eton Town Partnership Councillor Colin Rayner said “Once again our local businesses have picked up the gauntlet we’ve thrown down for them. I can see that some advance training and cunning planning has gone on this year amongst the teams…and maybe just a little bit of dress making!”

“Thanks go to all 19 teams that took part, and to the businesses that put up those teams. My thanks also go to the Councillor Jesse Grey , Mayor of Windsor & Maidenhead, who officially started each races” .

Over £1,000 is expected to be raised from the Pancake Challenge with the funds shared between the Windsor Christmas Lights Appeal and Thames Hospicecare.

Sue Watts, Centre Manager of Windsor Royal Shopping and the main sponsors for the event thanked all of the teams taking part:

“This is the third year we have supported the Pancake Challenge and words simply can’t describe the excitement and buzz the shopping centre has when the event is taking place ….it’s a hugely popular event, and a fun way to raise funds for the town and charities.”

Mint Velvet are absolutely delighted and more than a little excited to announce the opening of our first boutique! As three women with a passion for fashion we felt continually let down and frustrated by the lack of glamorous yet relaxed clothes to suit our lifestyles.

Why shouldn’t we feel great in our clothes what ever we’re doing, whether it be the school run, a working day or out with friends and family?

Well, we’ve done something about it and the result is Mint Velvet! Our clothes allow women to express an inner confidence by translating “must have” items into wearable pieces that make you feel fabulous whatever the occasion. The collection aims to make women feel great about themselves by offering not only flattering modern clothes in easy to co-ordinate capsule ranges, but also expert style advice from our in-store stylists.

The range comes together effortlessly, combining stylish basics with beautiful prints, individual detailing and refined textures. This seasons collection features cashmere mixes, silks, satins, velvets and refined jersey. Key items are oversized and layered knits, tunic dresses, strong shoulder lines, skinny trousers and fabulous fitting denim.

Come and Explore for yourself from the 14th November in Windsor Royal Shopping, we look forward to welcoming you to our beautiful new brand!

Six local soldiers based at Pirbright Barracks who undertook a 1,000 mile cycle ride to Normandy on 2nd June for the 65th anniversary of the Normandy landings have presented a cheque for a staggering £14,000 to Macmillan Cancer Support and Help for Heroes.

Corporal Nick Westhorpe, who organised the cycle ride said, “We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who sponsored us and gave so generously. The challenge would not have been possible without the support of Captain Kelly, Captain Rutledge, Staff Sergeant Shipley, Sergeant Blezard, Sergeant Goodchild, Sergeant Llewellyn-Jones, Corporal Jones, Corporal Lewis, Corporal Tucker, Corporal Wood and Bombardier Johnson. We would like to add a special thanks to Gill Shaw who included our challenge in her book ‘The Hero Inside’, Sally Carter, a Macmillan volunteer who gave us lots of support and Sue Watts, manager at the Windsor Royal Shopping Centre who gave us a collection day at the centre and lots of support with our fundraising."
